Most people who book their first interior detail are surprised by how long it takes. They are expecting something like a vacuum and a wipe of the dash. That is a wash. A detail is different.
Here is what we actually do, in order, on a typical Reset interior.
The first ten minutes are walking around the car with you. Looking at stains, asking questions. If something is going to be hard to remove I would rather tell you up front than promise miracles. We pull anything loose out of the car and bag it so it goes back in the same spot.
Then about twenty to thirty minutes of vacuuming. This is where most DIY interior cleans fall short. We pull the seats out where we can, vacuum the tracks, the gaps between the cushion and the back, the gap between the centre console and the seat. The vacuum on a Surrey commuter car usually fills the canister at this point. Pet hair gets a separate pass with rubber tools that lift it out of the fibres.
After that we steam everything that is not fabric. Dashboard, console, vents, cup holders, gear shift, door cards. Steam is the only thing that gets old grime out of textured plastic. Wipes do not work the same way.
The longest part is the carpet and seat extraction. Forty-five minutes minimum, longer if there are stains or pet damage. We use a hot-water extractor that injects a cleaning solution and pulls it back out with the dirt. The water in the tank usually comes out brown the first pass. On heavy carpets we do two or three passes.
Leather seats get a separate process. Cleaner first, then a conditioner that matches the type of leather. We do not use the silicone sprays that make seats look shiny. The result is a matte, soft finish that does not feel like a rental car.
Last twenty minutes is glass, dressing the dash and door cards (matte, not glossy, please), and putting everything back where it was. Floor mats clean separately and go back in last.
For a sedan, plan on two and a half to three hours. SUVs and trucks with three rows take four or five. The Refresh Interior is shorter, about two hours, and skips the deep extraction step.
Two add-ons that come up a lot. If you have a dog, just add the $45 pet hair removal. A regular vacuum does not get all of it. And if you have any kind of odour issue, smoke or food or pet, the $60 ozone treatment is what actually works. Sprays and air fresheners just cover the smell. Ozone breaks it down at the source.
